Did you used to shoot catalogs?

I say “used to” because, after 2 1/2 years of wondering when the catalog companies were going to finally get hip to the web and drop photos in favor of video I was both saddened and excited to see the Gap’s new “Fit Spotlight” animations (I don’t know how long Gap will be running this so I have screen captured it for posterity but you really should check out the Gap site).
I’m sad because I think that this really is so much better than photography at selling the product that I don’t think photographers are going to have work shooting catalog for the web very much longer – excited because this is really cool! And this is version 0.9B for this kind of stuff. A little imagination, a little production and some simple Flash programming and you’ve got the most dynamic presentation of blue-jeans I’ve ever seen. Wait a couple of years and imagine what it will look like then.
I’m really curious to see what you all think about this – leave me a comment and tell me what you think.
