I had a nice meeting with Yuri Neyman, ASC yesterday and he showed me his amazing color correction software 3cP. This full featured software solves a lot of issues for Canon VDSLR shooters and it does so with a very slick and relatively easy to use interface.
3cP starts off as an ingestion tool. It can verify the card data and copy it to 3 locations on import. It also transcodes to a number of different formats and incorporates available camera metadata.
Next you can work on color correcting the footage with a side by side comparison. In this space you can choose presets for the look including popular movie film stocks. Photographers shooting motion will be happy to know you can choose to view histograms instead of vector scopes.
After you make your color corrections, you can choose from an easy pulldown menu of export options or you can send your color instructions over to existing Final Cut Pro footage. Think of this software as a cross between Glue Tools (for ingestion) and Magic Bullet (for color).
3cP does all the above and a lot more. It was designed for the movie industry and it has all the tools to work seamlessly with post production houses. Check out the pedigree of the movies and TV shows who are using this software. As a photographer, you may never need all the capabilities included with 3cP but it is nice to know that your software investment can grow with you if your post production workflow changes. At $250 it will be money well spent for a full featured program that will save you time and money.
