Pentax Joins the Video DSLR Convergence with K-7
If a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it…… I kind of feel like that when finding out that Pentax has DSLRs with HD video capabilities. I watch this market segment and I didn’t realize Pentax had VDSLRs. It looks like to alleviate that problem, Pentax took a page from the Canon playbook and is using video shorts to help get the word out about the K-7. Uncle Jack is one of those films and it is a hoot. Be sure to watch it. Specs and more info after the jump.
To show off the HD video shooting abilities of their Pentax K-7 digital SLR cameras, Pentax commissioned two production companies to knock out a couple of entertaining short films.
Shot entirely at night in Denver, Colorado, the all-action Uncle Jack movie was created by film-maker Jamin Winans and Futuristic Films and features a mad clown, a crazed woman, magic pills, gunshots and lots of driving

It looks like the camera has a 14.6 megapixel sensor capable of shooting movie 30 frames per second at resolutions of 1280x720p, 1536x1024p, and 640x416p. Another cool thing I noticed about the still side of this camera is the ability to shoot RAW in Adobe DNG format and a one button toggle for going between JPG and RAW.
PENTAX RAW or Adobe DNG file selection offers RAW file compatibility with industry standard image editing software. [ A] dedicated RAW button allows easy situational switching between RAW and JPG file formats without having to access camera file format menu settings.
Another great feature for photographers is the ability to embed your copyright metadata in camera:
Programmable embedded copyright information preserves artistic integrity and image ownership during image capture.
