Never work with children or animals; but mostly animals

Here’s a fantastic, hilarious behind-the-scenes video for Joel Sartore‘s project, Rare: Portaits of American’s Endangered Species.

If you’ve never tried to get an excellent portrait of a wild animal, and thought that perhaps you might give it a try because hey, it can’t be that hard right? … well, this video might make you change your mind.

These creatures will lick your lenses. Poop on your backdrops. Run away, then run back again. Bite you and your kit. And your helpers. Eat anything that looks edible, like lenshoods, kit bags, your fingers.

All the hard work and craziness was worth it for Joel Sartore, as you can see from the Rare book page, where you can see some of the amazing results. My favorite is the California condor.
