Scottevest Unofficial Contest Challenge

July 27, 2010 by Commercials

Scottevest makes clothing designed to hold all of your high tech gadgets, including iPads and photo gear. I have a hoodie from them and wear it all winter long for walking the dog and if I am out shooting. I find their clothing is less nerdy than the usual photo vests and dare I say, verges on being geek sheik. Check out the video before we get into the ad spot challenge:

Scott Jorden, CEO of Scottevest, has put out an idea for an ad spot and kind-of-sort-of ask if anyone wants to turn his friend Tom’s idea into a commercial.

Anyone want to give this a try at home? Seriously, if you are interested in doing this, we’d pay you for your efforts, if it is worthwhile. Before you procedd, let me know so we can work out the details.

The key IMHO is that it doesn’t take $200k and 3 days of shooting to accomplish something memorable here, it should be based upon the story and editing . . . . It would be VERY easy to recreate and stage using simple tables, bins, a fake xray thingy, a box where the conveyer belt is. I think it could be done very simply. They gadgets, etc. could fall using effects in editing. What we are looking for is a cheap but cool effect using editing, and humor in the script, etc.

Since this is on his personal blog, it’s really an informal conversation but I think they should turn this into a contest. There might be other great story ideas out there in addition to this one. Youtube is full of home-spun videos that are self funded and high concept like the recent action short we wrote about that used cardboard weapons brought to life with inexpensive special effects. I would like to challenge Scottevest turn this into a legitimate contest for aspiring filmmakers with cash and product prizes.

As a matter of fact, I would even offer to tie the contest into the upcoming PhotoCine Expo where we plan on having a panel of top video contest and award winners. Let Scott know if this appeals to you and read the rest of his blog post for story details.
