Motion Magazine Concepts
At last year’s Collision Conference in Hollywood, I presented a demonstration showing how to make a simple motion magazine cover with Canon 5D files and Adobe Photoshop’s Animation timeline:

At the same conference, Alexx Henry gave a very inspirational look at how futuristic movies portray motion advertising and showed examples from a “Living One Sheet” for a Cybil Shepard project. Alex has continuedbreaking new ground with his work on “Outside Magazine” and his phenomenal piece for the iPad version of Viv Magazine.
Today, A Photo Editor featured a concept from William Hereford showing his idea for how magazines could better incorporate type, motion and stills:
There many great ideas floating around for bringing print media into the age of iPads and eReaders. Unfortunately, I see a lot of magazines trying to stay the course instead of embracing new ways of thinking about content presentation. Even Wired magazine which is one of my favorites, seems to want a new platform to showcase their magazine in it’s current form instead of reinventing themselves. It looks like it’s going to be up to the content creators to lead the way for this motion magazine revolution and I’m glad people like Alexx and William are out their pushing the envelope.
