HDSLR Transformers Action Short From Russia
Check out this VFX DIY Russian Transformers fan film that used a Canon 550D (T2i) and a Nikon D5000 and was animated using 3Ds Max (found by Ryan Koos over at NoFilmSchool.com). This is exactly why I put together the VFX for Guerilla Filmmakers panel at PhotoCine Expo. To showcase breakout talent who are willing to share their experiences and teach the techniques that they’ve developed in the trenches of DIY filmmaking. If I had seen this Russian footage a few weeks ago, I would have been scrambling to figure out a way to bring them to Hollywood for the Expo (might’ve cost Lou a few more air miles than flying Clint from Georgia). As it is, the panel is an exciting mix of talented artists that shouldn’t be missed.

If this doesn’t get you jazzed about whats possible with an inexpensive HDSLR camera and a computer, I don’t know what will. I predict we will be seeing a lot more VFX action shorts on the intertubes in the near future as more and more people realize that they are only limited by their imagination.
