Final Judgment of Nerd Mom: Not Too Shabby

The response to our Lady Gaga parody video My Muffintop has been so unbelievably positive. I really never dreamed I’d have such a great reception with with my first project. On our first day here on Photocinenews, we had over 9000 HD views. In our first week on YouTube we’ve had over 15,000 views, and our Funny Or Die rating is at 89%. NOT TOO SHABBY.

Here it is, the world premiere event you’ve all been waiting for!
Nerd mom has finally finished the My Muffintop video. The song is a parody of My Pokerface, by Lady Gaga, and is supposing what it’d be like if Lady Gaga had a few kids, and moved to suburban Los Angeles. It’s all very “Be Kind Rewind meets Lady Gaga”. Lyrics are up on my blog: www.mymomsanerd.blogspot.com. I’ll be back in a few days tell tall tales of living room film studios, sunburned toddler who won’t dance, and how you really can’t shoot the 5Dmkii freehand without a Red Rock support rig. Enjoy!
Be sure to read the whole HDSLR filmmaking saga from the beginning here.
Edit: Muffintop was aired exclusive for the first 24 hours on the PhotoCineNews site where it received over

When you last left me, I was agonizing over props, and effects, and HOW to shoot a music video with no crew. Oh, I’m so old and wise now. After every production delay you can imagine, the Lady Gaga parody video is finished! It’s called “My Muffintop”. The video should be up live here on Monday so check back! I’ll announce as soon as it’s up on twitter @mrsnipperknapp and on my blog www.mymomsanerd.blogspot.com
More coming soon on the trials and tribulations of making a music video with the 5Dmkii, the Redrock Micro Eyespy, and FCP, all for the first time. Yipes!

Three days ago, I had a massive case of pre-production ennui. The forecast for our shoot day was rain, I missed my appointment to pick up the Redrock Micro EyeSpy that I was getting on loan to test out, I didn’t have the right cable (HDMI to mini HDMI) to hook up the Ikan VX9 HD external monitor, and we hadn’t been able to get all three of us together for a full dance rehearsal. Things were looking ominous for our shoot. But somehow in the midst of stagnation, the stars aligned, and everything turned out just as it should have. The rain turned out to be a blessing in disguise.Nerd mom is a “yes lady” living in a “no ma’am” world
I was listening to Elvis Mitchell interview Jeff Bridges this weekend about why he’s worked with so many new directors, and with such success. Bridges said it was because (and I’m paraphrasing) the scripts had been good, but also because the new guys surround themselves with the best people who know what they are doing, and that they are enthusiastic, because they don’t know yet what they CAN’T do. I don’t KNOW yet what I can’t do. But I’m learning.

Nerd mom is experiencing technical difficulties
So this week I’m coming up against some of our little production’s shortcomings. You know, the hardware, lights (anybody want to lend me some kino flo light banks, and an led ring light?), props, costumes, how to make Barbie panties, and dry ice knowledge, kind of shortcomings. The usual stuff moms are thinking about while cooking up the mac and peas. For those of you who don’t know, and I forgot to mention in my first post, I am the not so proud owner of a blog called mymomsanerd. You can read all about my other domestic ventures and mishaps there.

I think you should know before anyone tells you different that I’m a girl. (gasp) I know! I’ve infiltrated this tech heavy, man crazy, photocine blog, and I’m about to blow your mind. Not really, I mean maybe, if you’re easily impressed. I’m going to take you on my journey from taking my new 5D Mk II out of the box (Happy Valentines me!) to shooting my first music video; that I’m also going to be starring in…dancing…wearing gold lame panties. I KNOW!! And you thought you logged in today to read about bandwidth, interpolation, and gigawatts.
