A well written and interesting piece by post production effects plugin maker Crumple Pop and why they see FCP X as the future in spite of the criticism that Apple’s new editing software has received.

We’ve followed Gail Mooney’s round the world HDSLR project here on PCN and were lucky enough to have her as a speaker at last year’s PhotoCine Expo. She is still out there adding great content to her Journeys of a Hybrid blog about her experiences shooting an HDSLR documentary called Opening Our Eyes.

This latest installment is about licensing music which is something new to photographer filmmakers. I see a lot of professional photographers who often go to court to protect their copyright using unlicensed music for their online videos and movie projects. I think that the current system is broken and that there should be easy ways for small projects to use rights protected imagery and music but it’s pretty hypocritical to just steal it. Anyway,

Oh the Weather Outside Is Frightful, Which Makes Shooting B-Roll Delightful.

Just when you thought that the crappy weather gave you leave to hang out in a nice warm pub and drink yourself silly until the sun shines again, you’re wrong. You should be out shooting B-Roll. A b-roll library is an invaluable tool for any filmmaker because the vignettes can be used for establishing shots in any of your productions. If you have an interior scene that calls for dreadful weather outside, you can reinforce the scene with a library shot of rain and wind before cutting to the interior action.
