Camera Selection & Production Speed

For a recent project I just completed, we needed a lot of footage from many locations but were on a tight budget and even tighter time schedule. This is a common situation in commercial work. Speed of production is where HDSLR cameras can make the previously impossible more viable.

On the “Cages & Light” branded film, we needed to shoot many different settings, and do it quickly as well as inconspicuously. The 5D we shot it on made this possible.

Cool Video from Nick Knight

Check out this really cool video shot by Nick Knight for his site called SHOWstudio. It’s a nice fashion piece where model Raquel Zimmermann dances to music by Lady Gaga (love her) in a very sexy one off dress from designer Gareth Pugh. I would have liked to seen this video shot in a tall format (vertically) without having to work around all the white space you have to deal with when showcasing a single person on camera. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the way Nick Knight used the negative space for the shots that were obviously inspired by the horizontal video framing. I just think that with all the options on the web, I would like to see more vertical video players as primary content instead of just as sidebar/skyscraper advertisements.
