Not Finding Johnny Depp In Rural West England

Finding Johnny Depp is a delightful eight minute short created by a group of young British filmmakers. It won the Delabole Slate Audience Award at the 2010 Cornwall Film Festival.

It shows their haphazard and occasionally misguided efforts to follow up persistent rumours that megastar Johnny Depp lives in a luxury house somewhere in rural Cornwall, the south-western extremity of England that juts out into the Atlantic ocean, and is host to some of the country’s most spectacular coastal scenery and surfing beaches.

You can get by with a little help from your friends

This delightful video tells the story of Liverpudlian Spike Kane, a music obsessive who learned to love being right at the front of every gig he went to – until a cycling accident left him paralysed from the waist down, and confined to a wheelchair.

The film tells how Spike’s friends have got together and helped him; how they clubbed together to buy him a laptop; and how they worked together to take him to the Sasquatch music festival near Seattle. Heart-warming stuff.

George Lucas joins the DSLR Revolution

Proving, perhaps, that the size of the budget is no longer a guarantee of the kind of gear you’re going to see lined up for the shoot.

Video Blogger Shares DIY Studio Gear

I was browsing Engadget this morning and came across an article about a home made 16 Terabyte NAS storage box (you know I am a sucker for storage) and I followed the link to the inventor’s site (coffee helps fuel my curiosity) to see what else he was up too and found a link to this behind the scenes look at his video blogging studio garage and DIY support rigs. Will Urbina has some pretty good ideas for re-purposing gear meant for astronomy and cake decorating to shoot video on a budget.

Steve Jobs on why Flash is not on the iPad

In what will undoubtedly be the hit read of the week, Steve Jobs has written a fantastic piece on why Apple has not included Adobe Flash in their mobile devices. One thing that resonated with me the most as it applies to PhotoCine News readers is his comment on H.264 and how web browsing via an Apple mobile device does not hinder a users access to the web as Adobe suggests.
