Robin Schmidt Talks About Gaming YouTube View Count

December 17, 2010 by News, Tips And Tricks

PCN friend and guest contributor Robin Schmidt has been cheating on us with a series of interesting articles for NoFilmSchool – I kiid, I kiid. The latest one is about how to use ranking services to game your viewership numbers to make your video relevant.

One of the best ways (supposedly) to really drive traffic through your YouTube channel is for one of your videos to make it onto the ‘most watched’ list, the front page of YouTube itself. Your video needs to be seriously trending to do this, lots of people watching it in a very short space of time. You tend to find this happening after TV shows where some enterprising soul has ripped a particular clip and posted it, with all those wishing to show their friends what they missed sending it on. This is not going to happen to your lovingly created clip. But that’s not to say that it can’t. … Continue Reading

Facebook gobbles up more photos

October 4, 2010 by News, Opinion

20101004-facebook.jpgFacebook announced some changes last week, including support for much higher resolution photos. Its previous limit of 720 pixels has been lifted to 2048 pixels, reports the BJP.

There’s little doubt that the social networking site of the movie is the world’s largest online host of photos right now, but as John Naughton points out for The Guardian, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good place to host them.

Canon to begin acquisition of the “.canon” Top-Level Domain name

TOKYO, March 16, 2010—Canon Inc. announced today that it will begin the acquisition process for the top-level domain name “.canon,” based on the new generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) registration system.

The non-profit organization ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), which maintains and regulates the Internet’s addressing system, has rigorously evaluated the current gTLD string of characters’ societal value, utilization purpose, and use in an organization’s operations. At its International Public Meeting held in June 2008, however, ICANN approved the relaxation and liberalization of the new gTLD system adoption rules. Following this meeting, a number of disputes arose surrounding whether the entry procedures were fair and adequate, and it was expected that the new gTLD system would commence registration application within 2010 at the earliest. The new gTLD system is expected to allow a company name, brand name, geographic region, or service type to be used as a gTLD within website and e-mail addresses. (continued…)

February 26, 2010 by News

20100226-webwill.jpgEver wondered what’s going to happen to all your web stuff after you die? I wonder about it a lot, as it happens, perhaps more than is healthy for me.

But for people who have invested a lot in online content over a period of years, it’s a question worth asking. Short of making sure that a trusted friend or relative has secure access to all the up-to-date passwords for all the services you use on the internet, there is no obvious answer.

My Webwill is a new idea from Sweden – currently in beta only – that tries to solve the problem.
